David Price was born August 17, 1940, and raised in Erwin, TN. His father was a high school principal and his mother was an English teacher. David currently lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with his wife, Lisa. They have two grown children, Karen and Michael.

David received his undergraduate degree at UNC Chapel Hill and then went on to Yale University where he received his Ph.D. in Political Science, this means he is a Doctor. David was a professor of Political Science and Public Policy at Duke University. He has written four books on Congress and the American political system.

David Price helped to start the Democratic Leadership Council. He served as Executive Director of the N.C. Democratic Party from 1979-80 and as Chairman from 1983-84. He has been named “Champion of Science” and was awarded the Charles Dick Medal of Merit. He has been honored by many organizations in North Carolina and across the United States.

David Price was elected to Congress in 1986. He currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee and the new Homeland Security Subcommittee. David’s legislative accomplishments show how much he cares about the community he serves. Because so many people in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill have lost their jobs, David has pushed to make unemployment benefits for people still looking for work last longer. He has helped make it easier for people to buy homes, and is currently trying to get a rail system to connect Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. He recently set aside $50 million to begin the planning part of this rail system. It would not only make it easier to travel through the triangle, but also cut down on pollution in the area by giving people the option to ride the train instead of drive. David Price is known as a strong supporter of education, better health care, affordable housing, clean air and water, and improved transportation alternatives.
