Read all the information below. After you have answered all the questions click Score Me at the bottom of the page. When you see your score raise your hand and a teacher will record your score. After you give your score to the teacher scroll to the bottom and read about the word problem you have to create.


There are many ways to solve a math problem. One way that often works best is to think of the problem as a mystery to be solved. As you read the problem be thinking about possible clues you might find. As you find clues, make notes of them. This often helps. This is called a strategy. There are many strategies you can use to solve a problem. Another good strategy is to draw a picture. Pictures often help you to understand a problem. Graphs and tables are other strategies that might help you to solve a math problem. One strategy you might already use is guess and check. This is when you make a guess as to what the answer might be and then check to see if it is correct. If it isn't you make another guess using any clues you might have found from your first guess and check. While you work the following problems you might want to use some of these strategies.


1). Your local video rental store, Fibonacci's, charges 1 cent a day for the first two days a PlayStation 2 game is late. It charges 2 cents the third day, 3 cents the fourth day, 5 cents the fifth day, and 8 cents the sixth day. How much will you have to pay if you return a book 6 days late?

2). You are a world famous rapper. Nelly has nothing on you! You have to figure out how much money you are making because you aren't sure if your manager is taking advantage of you. If you make $10 thousand for every concert you give and your manager gives you $60 thousand, but you did 7 concerts how much money is he shorting you?
